In Milano I have seen window-door blockers that are shaped like fat commas. You can either jam their thinner end under the border of a door, or jam the whole thing between the border of the door/window (after opening it up) and the frame. it works exactly like the wood block above.

It's not just you who thinks that. Jacob Neilsen the "guru" of website design says the same thing too. His site sticks to those principles. So does mine :)

You know, beside a double pair and bifocal lenses there are "varying" lenses (don't know the english designation, in italian is "graduali" or something like that) lenses where the graduation (?) changes smoothly between the long range one and the near range/reading one. Those lens aren't big at all but, as far as i know you need some time and willpower to adjust. The only problem i saw in your case with them is that is quite difficult to find the exact way to look at the monitor with them (or at least that is the problem a colleague of mine is having with them).
Ciao!

Yep, my perfect vision went south in my early forties. I still have great distance vision, but everything close-up and computer distance is a blur.

I had a pair of bifocals (progressives make me dizzy) made up with my reading Rx and my computer Rx. I can keep them on all day at my desk without having to change glasses, but I do take them off when I walk around.

Since one of my eyes seems to have a little astigmatism, I'm going to look into getting contacts for my overall vision, and should just need dimestore readers to add to the mix when I need to read up close. Maybe a similar solution would work for you?
